Have you considered adding a coloured diamond to your jewellery collection?

Brought to the world’s attention when discovered at the Argyle mine in Western Australia, the term Champagne diamond was coined to refer to the fancy coloured diamonds displaying warm natural colours ranging from pale straw to deep golden brown (also referred to as Cognac diamonds).

More abundant than other fancy coloured diamonds Champagne diamonds are an affordable, individual and naturally beautiful choice when selecting a piece of jewellery.

Often perceived as a low quality white diamond, champagne diamonds are a class of gem unto themselves – coloured by traces of nitrogen in the crystal structure of the stone. The higher the nitrogen content the deeper the warm brown colour resulting in the sought after Cognac hue.

The warm natural colour of champagne diamonds is a great choice that can reflect the wearers eyes or hair colour or to mark an Autumn engagement or wedding anniversary. Possessing a natural earthy character, champagne diamonds are neutral in tone and therefore infinitely wearable.

When selecting a champagne diamond, the depth of the colour is a personal choice but should have a warm golden undertone, saturated colour and be of a high quality cut to release the stones natural brilliance. These diamonds are graded on the conventional clarity, cut and carat weight system but the colour grading is on a unique scale ranging from C1 for the palest to C7 for the deepest reflecting the intensity and hue of the natural golden brown colour.

Like all natural diamonds, Champagne diamonds are a rare miracle of nature, formed billions of years ago by the unique conditions of intense heat and pressure. Each stone possesses its own characteristics that are only enhanced by skilled polishing.

Reflecting the warm earthy colours of nature these stones are worthy of inclusion in any diamond lovers collection!
