MEET THE MEMBER - MARCH 2022 - LINNEYS

This month we shine a light one of the great Australian family Jewellery stories – Linneys from Western Australia.

Founded by jeweller Alan Linney 50 years ago, the next generation of the Linney Family are now deeply ingrained into the company history with sons Justin and Troy taking the reins in the creative design and operational aspects of the business.

Tell us a little bit about the history of Linneys?

Justin Linney:“We have been creating fine jewellery from precious materials for 50 years. Our father Alan, who is a jeweller himself, established the business and then over the years attracted a team of the best artisan jewellers to create our pieces.  Handcrafting fine jewellery is a highly specialised skill that has been handed down through generations.”

“Our jewellers use various techniques when creating a Linneys piece, including wax carving and hand forging of metals to achieve the natural freeform style we are known for. Their work requires exceptional precision, talent and attention to detail.”

“We are honoured that our wealth of talent and expertise among our team has resulted in Linneys being awarded for our pieces on multiple occasions.”

What do you love about working with diamonds?

Justin Linney:“Diamonds are incredibly symbolic. They embody both a monetary value and a sentimental value. Diamonds become part of our story and our persona, so we form an intrinsic emotional value with the diamonds we own and this becomes a strong bond. Initially, we treasure them because of the financial investment and over time we treasure them because of the journey we have taken them on and the symbolism they entail.”

What makes your diamond jewellery unique?

Justin Linney:“We are renowned for our signature freeform style jewellery, which is complemented by high quality natural white and coloured diamonds hand selected by our diamond experts. Linneys designs epitomise fine diamond jewellery, utilising the diamonds either as the hero central gemstone or to enhance a piece of jewellery. Diamonds are part of the puzzle within each piece, helping to tell the story and highlight particular elements with each design.”

How does nature inspire your designs and approach to making your jewellery?

Justin Linney:“Linneys is based in Western Australia, known for its wealth of precious resources as well as having a spectacular coral coastline and Kimberley region. We are surrounded by inspiration, using our locally sourced materials to create jewellery inspired by these natural elements, right here in WA. Our uniquely West Australian pieces that are in demand from clients around the world. This is why we use the tagline “International style, Uniquely West Australian.”

What trends do you see in diamond jewellery in 2022?

Justin Linney:“Yellow gold diamond jewellery is making a comeback due to fashion trends going towards yellow gold to make a statement. I think asymmetrical designs and fancy cut diamonds will be popular this year.”
